How Facebook changed a town’s name

Sometimes you see Facebook get used for all sorts of dodgy things, like Bing Lee’s attempt using the Queensland Floods, and then every now & again you see a great use of the medium, like Pedigree’s Dog Adoption Drive and now this, a town named Speed changing it’s name to SpeedKills. You see they agreed to changed the town’s name, to raise awareness the dangers of speeding if they reached 10,000 “likes” Facebook, which they did. Now one of the town’s local farmers is going to change his name if they can generate 20,000 “likes” (which they did!). It’s really such a good use of the medium for a change and to see government support behind the initatives really demonstrates the power of the effectiveness.
