Harvey Norman isn’t quite a fan of social media, but I’m pretty pleased that his marketing team are. After learning of an influencial blog slamming their radio campaign , the retail giant managed to respond, counter react and change their entire radio strategy on a Sunday afternoon. What was in question was their strapline in the ad: “Do you want to give Santa a lap dance?” referring to instore photos with Santa. Considering the average age of the Harvey Norman market, I actually think it’s quite a funny line to use – and it got me wondering if it was the media buy that perhaps got them into trouble. Was it the 2UE audience who let them down, because I don’t think the Triple M audience would have had a problem with it. Nice case study. You don’t need to be active in social media, but you should certainly be listening at the least.
