Zuni has always been fascinated by crowdsourcing, so much so that it’s how we created our logo. We extended our fascination to include crowd funding, which led us to Kiva. Kiva’s mission is to connect people, through lending, with the aim of alleviating poverty around the world. This is where it gets interesting. Kiva is not just your average charity, Kiva works with micro-financing institutions on five different continents to provide loans to people without access to traditional banking systems. Kiva has achieved mind blowing results, with the total value of all loans made through Kiva amounting to an incredible $228,937,850. The average number of loans per Kiva Lender is 7.22. Now that my friends is a few loans!
When Valentina and Mike started the business, one of their objectives was to change the world one step at a time. For every client that Zuni brings on board, we invest $100 into a single Kiva loan. We usually try and match our loan to a business in a third world country that provides similar services. For example, when we took on National Roads and Motorists’ Association, we invested in a roads infrastructure business. As all of our loans have been repaid, we continue to reinvest in Kiva.
Zuni have since contributed over $8,775 in 88 loans from 82 different countries, helping third-world entrepreneurs make ends meet and their dreams come true. Being involved in Kiva really brings you back down to earth with a bump, because it makes you remember how much we have to be thankful for in developed countries.
